Editorial policy
Parents use what they read here to make decisions about their baby’s sleep, so we hold the guides to a simple rule: if we can’t point to a reliable source for a claim, we don’t make it.
Where our information comes from
We rely on primary and official sources, in roughly this order of preference:
- Peer-reviewed studies, read in the original paper or its published abstract (PubMed, PMC, or the journal).
- Policy statements and clinical reports from professional bodies, such as the American Academy of Pediatrics.
- Official public-health and safety agencies, such as the CDC and NIOSH, the NIH, the WHO, the NHS, and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
We don’t use other parenting blogs, product pages, or marketing material as evidence. Every source is listed at the bottom of the guide that uses it, with a link to the original.
How we write about evidence
- We say how strong the evidence is. A small study from 1990 is not the same as a large modern trial, and a study in adults or in a hospital NICU doesn’t automatically apply to a healthy baby at home. When that matters, we say it in the text, not in the fine print.
- We separate findings from inferences. Some common advice is extrapolated from adult workplace noise limits or from animal studies. That can still be sensible, but we label it as an inference.
- We don’t invent anything. No made-up statistics, no composite “parent stories”, no quotes from experts we didn’t cite, and no claims that we tested products we didn’t test.
- We stay in our lane. hushnap is not a medical provider. Guides are general information to help you have a better-informed conversation with your pediatrician, not a substitute for one.
Who writes the guides
Guides are researched and written for hushnap.com and published under the site’s name. You can read about the person behind the site on the About page. AI tools may help with research and drafting, but every claim is checked against the original source before it is published, and the site owner is responsible for what goes live.
Updates and corrections
We review guides when new research or new official guidance comes out, and when readers point out a problem. Each guide shows the date it was first published and the date it was last meaningfully updated. We only change that date when the content actually changes, not to make a page look fresh.
Found an error? Email support@hushnap.com with the page and the problem. We check every report against the source and fix confirmed errors.
Advertising
Guide pages may show ads. Ads are kept separate from the content, never appear inside the player, and have no influence on what we write or recommend. We don’t accept payment to mention or recommend products.
